What is CDR?

The Consumer Data Right (CDR) is a Commonwealth government initiative that compels banks (and other institutions) to provide consumers with secure, complete, and accurate data access per strict guidelines. Under CDR regulations, banks must provide this data when a consumer (individual or business) instructs them to.

What are CDR Bank Statements?

CDR Bank Statements are statements generated from transaction data provided by the banks under the Consumer Data Right. In this way, CDR Bank Statements are an accurate, unaltered, digital version of the bank transactions. With their clients’ permission, Advisers can generate CDR Bank Statements on demand and do not require access to online banking, or client passwords.

Are CDR Bank Statements the same as traditional Bank Statements?

A CDR Bank Statement is generated using data provided by the banks under the Consumer Data Right (CDR) regulations. It is a listing of all the transactions made through an account during a nominated date range. Because CDR Bank Statements are created by a Trusted Adviser on demand, the CDR Bank Statement can be produced with the client's permission for whatever date range the Adviser wishes. So, while the bank might provide statements that cover each month (say from the 15th of one month to the 14th of the following), an adviser may choose to instead produce a statement for the calendar month, or even for the entire financial year. Either way, the transactions, and account details (name, address, etc.) on the CDR Bank Statement match those provided by the bank.

Occasionally, data provided by the bank may include small variations to that found on the traditional paper statements.

Occasional Variances:

  • Transactions may appear in a different order

  • The running balance may not match

  • Transactions are dated a day earlier or a day later

  • Descriptions may look slightly different

Which banks or accounts can I get CDR Bank Statements from?

CDR Bank Statements are available from the majority of Data Holders active in CDR, for transactions accounts only. Credit, loan, and term deposit accounts are unavailable.

Excluded Data Holders:

  • Tyro

  • PayPal

  • Wise

  • Unloan

Why can't I see my CDR Bank Statement?

There are several reasons why you cannot produce a CDR Bank Statement:

  1. The bank you are trying to download a statement for is excluded from CDR Bank Statements

  2. The account type you are trying to download a statement for is excluded from CDR Bank Statements

  3. The selected date range contains a non-balanced balancing transaction

What file format is the CDR Bank Statement in?

CDR Bank Statements are generated in PDF format. Transaction data can also be downloaded in CSV, QIF, and OFX formats.
